What Happened on September 27th – We Didn’t Start the Fire

On September 27, 1989, the song We Didn’t Start the Fire recorded by Billy Joel was released.  When my boyfriend (now husband) and I first heard this song we decided that we needed to look up all the historical references mentioned in the lyrics.  Widespread use of the internet didn’t come until the 1990s, so we headed to the local public library and used various reference books to look up all the historical references.  Hot date right :).  Now my fifteen year old daughter loves the song and actually doesn’t think mom and dad were uncool for doing the research.  There’s a change.  So for an update to our research project in 1989, I give you We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel, in photographs.
